Gov. Gary Herbert (R) says he won't apologize for firing Forrest Cuch, the longtime director of
the
Division of Indian
Affairs.
Herbert says he fired Cuch for being "insubordinate." He claims Cuch, who ran the office for 13 years, tried to cancel the Utah Native American Summit.
“No such thing. That is totally incorrect,” Cuch told The Salt Lake Tribune in response.
Tribal leaders are upset with Cuch's abrupt firing and say Hebert's explanations have been unsatisfactory. They drafted a resolution asking Herbert to apologize to the tribes and to Cuch.
